North Point Community Church ordained five new elders during worship on Sunday, June 7. The new elders were recognized for their wisdom and spiritual maturity, and this leadership role gives them responsibilities as overseers and ministers to members of the congregation. In addition to the ordination, North Point has seen a significant number of salvations in the last four months.

According to Senior Pastor Freddy Johnson, “elder ordination is not a human invention. It is a biblical pattern from the earliest days of the church, as elders were appointed in every congregation. This was not done casually, but with prayer, fasting, and the laying on of hands as a visible sign of God’s call and the church’s affirmation.”

Associational Missions Strategist Jamie Rogers greeted the North Point congregation and new elders with a recorded message, saying the ordination was a “great opportunity that shows you’re doing what Jesus has called all of us to do – to share the gospel and to make disciples. We are to see people grow and mature in their faith, and this elder ordination is a sign that you are doing exactly what Jesus has called you to do.”

Since February of this year, North Point has seen 52 salvations. The new believers responded through gospel presentations during worship services and through the church’s Good News Club and an Easter outreach event. Johnson has baptized three of the individuals and is scheduling two more baptisms in coming weeks.
