January Advisory Team Meeting: What Churches Need to Know

CMBA Advisory Team members met January 20 at Temple Zion Baptist Church to conduct regular business and discuss ministry and church assistance plans for the year ahead.

CMBA church members Freddy Johnson, Andre Melvin, Yvonne Murray, and Andre Rogers began new terms serving on the Advisory Team.

In his report to the team, Associational Missions Strategist Jamie Rogers gave staff updates including regarding the hiring process for the virtual assistant position, vacated December 31 by Kyndra Bremer. CMBA will post information about the position to the website in the coming days. Rogers also asks all contacts to update his information with a new email address, JamieR@ColumbiaMetro.org.

Rogers encourages pastors and CMBA church members to be aware of the following upcoming opportunities:

February 10 – CMBA senior pastors’ wives fellowship will be held 6-7:30pm, at Kilbourne Park.

February 16 – GO Day, share your faith with someone on this first of seven designated dates in 2026.

February 19 – Bi-vocational pastors & wives fellowship will begin at 6pm at Earlewood Baptist.

March 12 – Forged Together lunch event with Jeff Iorg will be held 11:30am-1pm at GraceChurch of Columbia. More information, including an RSVP for lunch and materials, may be found through our website.

March 13-19 – Vision trip to Spain for pastors and wives, lay leaders. Additional information, including cost, may be found on our website.

April 2 – GO Day, share your faith with someone on this second of seven designated dates in 2026.

Along with Treasurer Doug Barnette’s report on year-end giving and the association’s current budget, Rogers told team members the association desires to be in a position to give more financial grants to churches for missional projects and needs. He told them CMBA wants churches to “do more outreach. The Holy Spirit uses what your church is doing to affect the lives of the lost, and there are people that might not ever come to your church except for their responding to outreach efforts.” Rogers reminds churches that the CMBA Block Party trailer is an excellent and affordable resource for community outreach.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Rogers asked the Advisory Team to share known church evangelism and ministry needs and to brainstorm ways that the association can collectively begin meeting them. Members discussed associational prayer gatherings, resource needs related to counseling services and social media presence, discipleship, and leadership pipelines.

“CMBA wants to be able to resource our churches. We recognize that when individual pastors and churches are struggling with something, they aren’t alone in those struggles. If one congregation needs something, likely many others need the same things,” Rogers said.

The next Advisory Team meeting will be held on March 24 at GraceChurch of Columbia.
