Insight 299: FaithSoaring Churches Carefully Choose Greeters

Congregations seeking to transform carefully choose their greeters and ushers. They seek to match the characteristics of greeters and ushers with the people they are seeking to reach for worship. This may include age, gender, and other factors of identification. They may also include the characteristic of being obviously friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

This may seem like a small thing. It is not. Too many congregations have older, male ushers who appear to be either a little grumpy or overly concerned about the sports game over the weekend rather than providing a friendly welcome to guests and regular attenders.
