Insight 331: FaithSoaring Churches Learn a New Cultural Language

Congregations seeking to transform realize the way they talk about things and the words they use may not connect with the non-churched. The non-churched are preChristians, unchurched, and underchurched people, but in these categories are the group of people now called the “nones.”  Nones have no organized religion preference when answering surveys and questions about their religious affiliation.

Congregations realize the language they use does not communicate clearly with the non-churched. The church culture language is insider language that is no longer commonly held within society at-large.  Also, some words–like evangelism–have been co-opted for other uses, applications, and meanings.
