Congregations seeking to transform who figure out the dysfunctional reasons why people stay in their congregation rather than leave may be able to address key issues. People connected with a congregation for more than 30 years are even afraid to leave and try to establish new relationships in another congregation.

Some people are co-dependent for their life happiness and sense of well-being on the roles and positions they have in their congregation. Obviously they will resist any attempts to move out of roles to which they feel entitled. Efforts to do so may bring out the worst in these people.
