Congregations seeking to transform do not burn out their lay leaders. Burnout of lay leaders happens easily. Typical congregations seeking to transform have experienced a decline in available and able lay leaders. At the same time, they desire to keep the same number of programs going, and perhaps to even increase them.
The likelihood is that congregations will ask the same lay leaders who are already busy to do more. This works when lay leaders really care about the church and want it to succeed, care about the programs and want them to succeed, and are unable to say “no.”
