Captured By Vision Insight 003 By George Bullard

Vision is about walking by faith in God rather than by what is in plain sight, as we are admonished in 2 Corinthians 5:7.

This Corinthians verse admonishes us to walk by faith rather than by sight. Another way to say this is that we need to walk by faith in God’s sight, or what God can see that we cannot yet see, or what God understands that we do not yet understand.

Walking by faith is seeing God’s empowering vision with our full heart, soul, mind and strength. It is about the ability to see Jesus in the eyes of the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick and imprisoned. Without the sight that faith gives us, we are unlikely to be captured by God’s empowering vision.

We must resist the temptation for our vision to be the one we see in any other congregation. God’s empowering vision for us is unique. Will Mancini in his book Church Unique: How Missional Leaders Cast Vision, Capture Culture, and Create Movement (Jossey-Bass, 2008) explains that “each church has a culture that reflects its particular values, thoughts, attitudes, and actions and shows how church leaders can unlock their church’s individual DNA and unleash their congregation’s one-of-a-kind potential.” (From the inside flap of the book cover.)
