Money is a Greater Taboo Than Sex or Religion

“Money is one of the greatest taboos around. Money conversations are a greater taboo than conversations about sex or religion.” (Nouwen, p. 30)

Fundraising can be a difficult task for people who proclaim that talking about money is a taboo subject for them. Are they afraid to admit how they spend their money? Are they afraid to reveal that generosity is not one of their personal characteristics? Are they afraid that details about their money will be publicly revealed?

A person who is comfortable with how they express generosity in their lives seldom sees talking about money as taboo.
